2024 Tilbury Chardonnay

Crafted from 100% Lenswood fruit, the 2024 Tilbury opens with lifted aromas of lime, lemon, white nectarine and a subtle hint of green apple. A gentle flinty reduction adds complexity while keeping the profile fresh and vibrant.

The palate is pure and finely structured, driven by citrus and white stone fruit. A mineral acid line provides length and clarity, supported by an elegant, pithy phenolic texture. Matured in 30% new oak, this wine shows finesse, balance and a long, focused finish.

Mineral-driven with a restrained edge and a lovely core of fruit, giving aromas of sliced lemons, citrus blossoms, grapefruit and phosphorus, with a vivid crushed-stone edge. The palate is tightly wound, with a textural yet refined mouthfeel, striking acidity and a chalky feel. This is excellent, giving immediate pleasure and showing good aging potential. Drink or hold. result here. The aromas give a little of the house flint; citrus feels come into play
through the palate, which, as expected from the cooler site, is quite compact and
coiled, though acidity is delicately handled for the benefit of the expression. Time
in the glass, or decanter, begins to reveal a more open personality. Drink now–2034

The 2024 The Tilbury Chardonnay hails from Lenswood in the Adelaide Hills, and the wine leads with a gentle cast of flinty reduction atop the orchard fruit. In the mouth, preserved citrus and white peach, green apple and freshly picked sage populate the palate. It is creamy and nutty but focused and linear too. The tannins are chalky and fine, and the saline acidity packages up the wine through the finish. This is a very smart, very good value wine here. 12.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. According to Murdoch Hill: This comes 100% from the Estate Lenswood vineyard, from "a patchwork of blocks, so a true reflection of the entire vineyard." It is 40% from mature 1989 plantings and 60% from Bernard clones that were planted in the early 2000s. The vineyard sits at 480 to 520 meters in elevation. The wine fermented in barrel, with 30% new wood, 70% puncheons and the rest barriques. It mostly went through malolactic fermentation with small percentage not getting through (90%).
